IMSF Objectives & Activities

The objectives of the Forum are:

To contribute to improvements in training, operation and in the maritime industry through the use of simulation.

To provide an effective medium for the interchange of ideas and experience by members of the Forum.

To develop performance criteria for the use of simulators in maritime training and research.

To collaborate with other organizations involved in maritime simulation.

Activities

Exchange of Information

Topics range from techniques of simulation using hardware and software, experimental methods in simulator software, simulator use and training, and research evaluation.

International Conference Meetings

Every year a meeting and workshop is held at a different simulator location throughout the world. Conference themes deal with marine simulation and training on all levels. All IMSF members are invited and encouraged to participate. Every third year a major international MARSIM conference is organized with formal presentation of papers.

Assistance

The IMSF serves as a network to anyone who seeks advice on use and manufacture of marine simulators.

Promotion

The IMSF serves to promote, internationally, the use of shiphandling simulators for training and research, by encouraging high standards in design, construction and operation.
